Art Summer Camps

For students interested in pursuing an art degree, IvyBoost has compiled a list of the best pre-college summer art programs which include a variety of program types and a range of budget options.

While some summer programs focus on a specific art form, others allow students to explore their creativity over a variety of mediums. Each of the summer arts programs below guarantee a fun, creative, and art-filled summer.

Texas Tech University
  • Anson Clark Scholar Program

The 7-week intensive summer program combines curriculum learning with hands-on exercises. The field is broad, including drama, architecture, art, design, etc. The students will receive direct tutoring from outstanding professors.

Location: Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas.

Dates: June 22 – August 6, 2020.

Cost: Free of charge, students will receive a $750 tax-free stipend and room and board.

Application Open Date: January 10, 2020.

Application deadline: February 10, 2020.

Eligibility: High school students in grades 11 and 12, and 17 years old before June 22, 2020.

  • ARCSTART 

The three-week course will enroll 45 students in 2020. Students will learn hand-painting, model making, drawing, photography and sketching, and use a variety of digital and simulation tools for architectural project design.

Location: Tubman School of Architecture and Urban Planning Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Dates: July 12, 2020 – July 31, 2020.

Cost: $3,600, including accommodation, most meals, excursions, entertainment center fees and materials.

Application Open Date: January 15, 2020.

  • COLLEGE AUDITION PREPARATION WORKSHOP

Especially suitable for high school students who are interested in applying for university music, such as singers, brass and woodwind players. Each instructor recruits up to 8 students.

  • Summer Immersion: New York City

Art and architecture, design, painting, photography, digital film production and other directions. Students can choose any one of them to study. Through the teacher’s substantive guidance and classroom discussions, experiments, seminars and other activities directly in-depth contact with the subject matter.

Dates: Session 1: June 29-July 17, 2020;

            Session 2: July 21-August 7, 2020.

Cost: $11,064 residential, $5,600 commuter.

Eligibility: Students who are about to enter grades 9-12 can apply. There are no minimum GPA requirements, but the application materials should ensure that students have the academic background and competencies, motivation and maturity necessary for the course they are applying for.

  • Design Media Arts Summer Institute

The Department of Design Media Arts at UCLA is one of the top design departments in the United States, providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary education in media creation. The department offers a two-week summer program for high school students. The final work can be used for university applications.

Location: University of California, Los Angeles, School of Design and Media Arts.

Dates: July 5th – July 17th, 2020.

Transmedia is a new discipline that covers time-based digital art forms, including photography, video and computer art. Under the overall guidance of the teacher, students will gain an in-depth understanding of the history and theory of digital art, explore various cross-media technologies, and learn about contemporary media artists.
