How to Record Accomplishments in Activities
by Kathleen M.
Thinking about applying to college? Looking for a new year’s resolution? I have an idea for you! Keep a record of all you are doing/learning in high school so you will be prepared for college applications.
How to start? How can you record your accomplishments from high school activities?
Select a notebook – or online source. And commit to recording weekly your accomplishments. Weekly may seem like too often, but it is a good habit. So once you start, you will learn more and more about yourself!
Now what? Each week, take time out to record your accomplishments from the week. What progress did you make towards what goal? All of these notes will help when you have to write application essays later.
At each quarter/semester, take a moment to reflect on your grades and how you see them in relation to what you learned. Or in relation to what else is going on in your life! If you are busy with sports and still able to maintain your GPA, now is a good time to record that.
Consider that when it is time to write college applications, you could be asked many questions.
What do you want to study? What is your greatest accomplishment? How did you manage distraction? What was your greatest learning opportunity? When did you know you were going to be x?
Any of these could be traced to your journalling if you start keeping a detailed record of your life. Having the information at hand will come in handy for applications, scholarships, and other resources.
Also, an examined life is always a worthy object. When you know what you know, you will know where to turn next to continue to develop yourself. And a growth mindset is a valuable tool for all of us.
