Waiting on the Waitlist
The envelopes have arrived in the mail. Heart pounding, you open one and scan the first lines of the letter, only to feel a wave of disappointment as you realize…you’ve been waitlisted.
What can you do, if you’ve been waitlisted for a college? The following articles from U.S. News and World Report, the Huffington Post, and Time offer valuable techniques for handling the waitlist.
First, take a deep breath. You could send a few polite messages to admissions for clarification on your waitlist position, but hold off on emailing constantly for updates. Also, carefully consider your college plans. What stands out for you the most about the waitlisted colleges? Do you have other offers of acceptance for your major of interest, or with strong financial aid?
Lastly, make sure to keep up with your studies. Whether a college has accepted or waitlisted you, you will need to maintain a strong student profile in your last high school year.
